DIY Shoe Rack

I love organization solutions that help you get a good feel for your inventory, especially when it comes to shoes. While at Goodwill a few weeks ago, I got the wild idea to turn this ordinary DVD holder stand (purchased for $10) into a pretty yet organized shoe display. I plan to eventually spray paint it but for now it will just do.

*Blogger Confessions: I have three jobs…

{getting ready before a 9:30 club show this past weekend}

Those of you that know me personally, know that I am one busy girl! For those of you who don’t know me, it’s time to confess. Aside from being a fashion blogger, I am an environmental consultant, part-time grad student and licensed real estate agent. Often people ask me, how do you do it all? How do you manage all this and still make time for blogging? The truth is, you make time in your life for the things you are most passionate about. Not only does this mantra apply to my professional career, but it is something I have always lived by in my relationships. If someone wasn’t giving me the attention I deserved, I knew it wasn’t meant to be because you make time for the things that matter most.

As a 9-to-5 consultant, I work on helping agencies become more sustainable. I provide them with the knowledge and tools they need to protect the environment and conserve resources. As a real estate agent, I help friends and family purchase or sell their home. I have always had a love for real estate and since there aren’t an abundance of agents you can trust, I deem it my duty to be an honest and reliable source for one of the biggest purchases one will make in their life. And last but not least, as a part-time grad student I will have my MBA by March. Hooray!

Over the last few years, blogging has been the perfect creative outlet for me. It has inspired me to decorate my new home, share tips on affordable fashion, and most importantly it has connected me to amazing new friends or blogger bffs as I like to call them. Not only do I have something to confess today, but so do my blogger bffs. They too make time for blogging given their professional careers.

To read up on their Blogger Confessions* head over to Apollinas, Rosa Loves DC, and TheYouFinder.

*Blogger Confessions is a new series that a few bloggers in the DC area have decided to participate in. It hopes to capture the multifaceted lives that many bloggers live in, but sometimes is not highlighted in our blogs.

Bombshell Waves Tutorial

After posting some pics (here and here) on my recent waves, I got several request to do a tutorial. Since the process only takes about 10 minutes, it’s hard not to share!

Below is a five step process to achieve ten minute waves with Sephora’s Sultra Bombshell, a rodless curling iron that’s super quick and easy to use.

Step 1: Messy blow dry to hair and smooth out with brush (spend no more than a few minutes but make sure hair is mostly dry).
Step 2: Grab hair clips to separate hair.
Step 3: Separate hair into two sections (top and bottom).
Step 4: Grab bottom sections of hair, pull out, put rod under top portion of hair and wrap around rod (remember to wear glove, I didn’t because I’ve been doing this for a while now). Repeat 3 times or more on each side.
Step 5: Un-clip top of hair and repeat step 4 a few times on each side.
Finished Look: Use some hair spray (I use this one) and voilà you’re done!

Neon Spots

As a huge fan of neon this season, I wanted to try out this trend without breaking the bank. This Old Navy neon messenger (thanks to Alicia’s recommendation) proved to be the perfect pop of color to an all black and navy ensemble that I put together this past weekend.

Wu for Target

Mark your calendars for February 5. Yet, another fabulous Target collaboration. This time it’s with Jason Wu (a Michelle Obama favorite). I must say I am very smitten over this collection because it’s very practical and feminine. Do I dare even say that I like it better than the Missoni for Target line?:) The best part, all items are priced under $60.

Collar Bling

This season look out for some collar bling. I’ve seen it in about every color, from metallic to neon. While at H&M this weekend (after having coffee with the blogger bff Rosa) I found this soft sheer black top with a metallic collar. I was instantly enamored and brought it home with me.

Style Challenge #7: Get The Look

I’m happy to say that I made it to the final style challenge of ABC Family’s Jane By Design. It has been an adventure and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it!  For the final task we had to watch the premiere (in case you missed it watch clip here) and choose one person to observe and write a “get the look” entry on our blog.  As I watched the premiere, I was immediately drawn to Gray Chandler Murray’s vibrant red coat.  Her ensemble was chic, classy, and modern. The pop of red is a perfect way to add color to any outfit.

To get the look purchase this coat, dress, necklace, and pumps! And don’t forget to share your “get the look” tips here!

Style Challenge #6: Pretzel Bib Necklace

Happy New Year friends! Hearing that I made it to round 6 of the Jane By Design Style challenge (there are a total of seven rounds) was a great way to kick off two thousand and twelve. For this challenge we were given a bag of pretzels and instructed to design something fashionable that inspires us. I have always been a huge fan of bib necklaces  and immediately knew that I wanted to make something that was wearable, not only edible.

With some spray paint and crazy glue I was able to design this unique gold bib necklace, made from pretzels!

In what ways are you inspired to make fashion out of something unexpected? Share here and don’t forget to mention High Fashion 4 Less.
